Instructor - Assistant Instructor

Through classroom learning and in-water practice, the Lifesaving Society's Assistant Instructor Course prepares candidates to help instructors with swimming and lifesaving classes. Candidates are introduced to key principles of learning and teaching while they master basic progressions. The roles and responsibilities of instructors and their assistants are emphasized. Participants will be able to complete high school volunteer hours within the Learn to Swim Program at Waterloo following this course, and apply to be an Assistant Instructor. This course will lead to the Lifesaving Society Instructor certification upon sucessful completion. The LSS Instructor course prepares candidates to teach the Lifesaving Society's Canadian Swim Patrol Program, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Wading Pool Attendant, Lifesaving Fitness, Distinction, Diploma, Basic and Emergency First Aid, AED and CPR-A, CPR-B and CPR-C. National Lifeguard Course

The National Lifeguard program is the only national standard for lifeguarding and the only recognized lifeguard qualification in Ontario. The primary role of an NL-trained lifeguard is the prevention of emergency situations and in responding quickly and effectively. NL put a focus on fitness while still providing a heavy emphasis on knowledge, judgment and skill. This 40-hour course is designed for candidates to develop the practical skills and knowledge to be employed as a lifeguard.
