Airway Management Course/Recert

Airway Management certification provides specific knowledge and training in the use of oxygen, suction devices, oral airways and masks/bag-valve-masks (BVM’s). This is both a course and is a recert. Prerequisite: Standard First Aid from one of LSS, Red Cross, St. John or Ski Patrol only. Proof of prerequisites are required. Use Find a Member to check and print off your LSS qualifications. Basic First Aid with CPR-A and AED

Basic First Aid includes how to contact emergency medical services, rescue breathing, how to treat choking and minor injuries. CPR-A (Single Adult Rescuer) teaches CPR and choking procedures. Participants learn when and how to operate an automated external defibrillator. This is both a course and a recert. CPR-C gives you the skills and confidence to do CPR and choking procedures for adults, children, and infants, and by 2-rescuers. AED certification is included. This is a course and a recert. CPR-HCP with AED Course/Recert

CPR-HCP (Health Care Provider) includes CPR skills and theory for adult, child and infant victims, including rescue breathing (artificial respiration) and the use of AEDs and bag-valve-masks (BVM) in a health care setting. This CPR level is designed specifically for those who, as part of their job descriptions as Health Care Providers or those that are continuing their education as paramedics, physicians, RMT, OT, PTs, etc. for example. Ideal for those in 'first responder roles, or those planning on going on to therapy based programs. Required to apply to the campus response teams. Recognized by WSIB. Emergency First Aid is for people who want a general knowledge of first aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. Skills include: victim assessment, rescue breathing, CPR, choking and what to do for external bleeding, heart attack and stroke. Includes CPR-C and AED certification (Adult, Infant, child and 2-rescuer CPR). Recognized by Ontario's WSIB. The Lifesaving Society’s Standard First Aid Instructor course prepares candidates to teach the LSS first aid courses Emergency First Aid (EFA), Basic First Aid (BFA), AED, Standard First Aid (SFA) and CPR-A, -B, -C. This course includes LSS Advanced Instructor (or Core First Aid Instructor for those without a Lifesaving Instructor certification). An aquatic background is not required to take this course and become a LSS Standard First Aid Instructor. Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid, AED and CPR (Adult, Infant, Child, 2-rescuer). Course content includes all items in Emergency First aid plus training in medical/legal aspects, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns, and medical emergencies. Those who have taken an SFA recert previously from any organization or who have expired would take this course. Required for aquatics staff and is a prerequisite for the National Lifeguard program.
