LTS C/Y 1

Swimmers will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a PFD. They'll become comfortable opening their eyes, exhaling and holding their breath underwater. They’ll work on floats, glides and kicking through the water on their front and back. LTS C/Y 10

Ranger Patrol: Swimmers develop better strokes and endurance over 75 m swims of each stroke. They tackle Lifesaving Sport skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatment of victims in shock and obstructed airway procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation. LTS C/Y 11

Star Patrol: Swimmers are challenged with 600 m workouts, 300 m timed swims and a 25 m object carry. Strokes are refined over 100 m swims. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies including asthma and allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defense methods, victim removals and rolling over and supporting a victim face up in shallow water. Days listed are start dates. To register: warrior.uwaterloo.ca/

LTS C/Y 2

Now that your swimmer can jump into the shallow water, keep going! Swimmer 2 is the next level for those who are comfortable in the water but maybe haven't quite mastered their skills or are uncomfortable in deep water. Working with our dynamic and fun instructors, swimmers will jump into deeper water and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a PFD. With the encouragement and guidance of our skilled instructors, they’ll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10–15 m on your front and back, and be introduced to flutter kick interval training. LTS C/Y 3

Swimmer 3's will join the skilled instructors of the PAC pool and learn to jump into deep water and to tread water. An introduction to underwater orientation and new kicks will be added, as well as work on front and back crawl and interval training. They will work the skills to save a life with CPR. LTS C/Y 4

Join other Swimmer 4s as they learn how to get oriented underwater and manipulate their body in the water and work towards the Canadian Swim to Survive® Standard. LTS C/Y 5

The water becomes the new comfort zone of your Swimmer 5 as they learn to dive, treading water and complete the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard. They will learn more kicks on their back and side and refine their front and back crawl and breaststroke. Then they'll pick up the pace with 25 m sprints and interval training. LTS C/Y 6

Building on the strong skills developed in front and back crawl and whip kick, as a Swimmer 6 they will start underwater swimming and start on breaststroke. With encouragement from their dynamic instructor, their endurance will increased with interval training and front crawl sprints. LTS C/Y 7

Your youth has come so far as a swimmer! Just because they can float they shouldn't stop improving their skills. In Swimmer 7 they will master shallow dives, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and orienting themselves. Their front and back crawl (50 m swims) and breaststroke (15-25 m) will become stronger and they'll add scissor kick and head up front crawl. LTS C/Y 8

DYK that youth are in the age group with the highest drowning rate in Canada and second highest in Ontario? But with their Swimmer 8 skills they are much safer in, on and around water. In this course your swimmer will work with their instructor to add advanced aquatic skills challenges including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kick. They will develop strength and power in breaststroke sprints over 25 m and will complete the 300 m workout. To register: warrior.uwaterloo.ca/

Rookie Patrol: Swimmers continue stroke development with 50 m swims of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Lifesaving Sport skills include a 25 m obstacle swim and 15 m object carry. Excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. LTS C/Y Lifesaving Sport

Lifesaving Sport! This exciting Olympic and Commonwealth Games-recognized sport is the only sport with its foundations in humanitarian skills. Youth will build on their swimming skills in exciting events that takes the repetitiveness out of swimming straight lengths by adding in manikins, tubes, fins and throwing lines. Each practice will challenge you to increase your physical fitness, to prepare you for lifesaving competitions and to obtain personal best achievements. Youth will be a part of the winning club and tradition at Waterloo and can choose to complete or not. The focus is on teamwork, sportsmanship, personal bests and most importantly, having fun. Trained by quality and successful coaches, Lifesaving Sport is a great program for those in competitive swimming looking to cross-train, for a change of pace or those looking to continue in the pool until they reach the age to become a lifeguard. LTS C/Y Parent & Tot

Designed for parents to accompany and participate with their children in the water. Children get their face wet and blow bubbles (the first step in breath control). With your guidance and encouragement, your child recovers objects below the surface, performs front and back floats and learns how to travel at the surface by kicking. Warrior 1-on-1 is a private lesson program for one child or youth to work directly with our qualified staff. Participants will work at the level best suited to their abilities from Swimmer 1 - 11. Congratulations taking the first step to getting your swimmer more comfortable in the water! Your 3-5 year old will have fun with the instructor getting into, water with and without a PFD.
